Daegu FC succeeded in escaping a losing streak after an all-out war. For now, the urgent fire was extinguished.
Daegu FC, led by acting coach Seo Dong-won, beat the Jeju SK Wyverns 3-1 at the "Hana Bank K League 1 2025" home game held at iM Bank PARK in Daegu on Sunday. Daegu has ended its dreadful seven-game losing streak. The team has secured victory in as many as eight matches. The team ranked 11th with three wins, one draw and seven losses (10 points).
I was desperate. Daegu had two wins and one draw in the opening three matches of this season. It once ranked first. However, the team has suffered consecutive losses since then. The situation was unusual. Eventually, the team lost 0-1 to Ulsan HD on April 13, before breaking up with coach Park Chang-hyun. Daegu hurriedly switched to acting Seo. It seemed to be preparing an opportunity for a reversal by winning the Korea Cup 2-0 against Gimhae FC (tertiary) on April 16.
It was not easy. Daegu suffered a crushing defeat by one to three in the following away games at Jeonbuk Hyundai. It had a whopping seven consecutive losses. Daegu had seven consecutive wins between 2009 and 2010. However, it is the first time that the team has won seven consecutive games in a single season. It has thus written history of disgrace. Fans' anger shot up the sky.
There was nowhere else to back down. Daegu staged an all-out war ahead of a game against the SK Wyverns on Tuesday. The best news was the return of Cesinha, who had been sidelined due to an injury. Cesinha focused on rehabilitation for a while due to his recent injury. The return of "Ace" Cesinha was a strong boost. Bench also mobilized all of its strength. Even B team coach Park Won-jae joined the bench. "Coach Park Won-jae came to the top team since the match against Ulsan on June 13. He has continued to train with the A team since then. The team is also lacking in coaching staff due to lack of coach," a club source said.
Daegu prepared for the match step by step for two weeks after the match against Jeonbuk on June 20. All-out efforts worked. Daegu scored the first goal in just two minutes against Jeju Island. Yoshino jumped high in front of the opposite goal and pushed it with his head on a corner kick kicked by Cesinha from the left corner. Daegu widened the lead by scoring an additional goal right before the end of the first half. Cesinha sent a long pass to the politician running forward from his side. A politician drove the ball from near the halfway line, tricked goalkeeper Kim Dong-joon and shook the net.
In the second half, Jeju's offensive intensified. Oh Jae-hyuk shook the net in the 10th minute of the second half, but the goal was cancelled as the catcher's header pass was ruled offside in the process. Jeju was placed underdogged as Kim Ryun-seong was sent off due to accumulated number of warnings. However, Jeju started to chase after Johnathan's header goal in the 21st minute of the second half. Daegu clenched its two fists with Edgar's netting in extra time in the second half. 메이저놀이터
After escaping from losing consecutive games, Daegu will have a showdown with Suwon FC on Wednesday. Daegu and Suwon FC (eight points) remain at 11th and 12th, respectively, with two points between them. It is a match that determines one's fate.
